Premier League clubs turned down chance to sign Bayern Munich ace Alphonso Davies for just £2MILLION due to ‘MLS ignorance’

TOP Premier League clubs ignored the advice to sign Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies for just £2million due to their MLS ignorance.

Earlier Everton forward Adrian Heath, who has coached the MLS for 13 years, tipped off some coaches and club heads at home about Davies but was ignored, leaving the door open for Bayern.

The Canadian international, 21, started his career in MLS with Vancouver Whitecaps before joining the German giants in 2018.

Davies has won four German Bundesliga titles and a Champions League with Bayern.

Heath, 61, thinks perceptions are changing as standards skyrocket in MLS, but says there are plenty of other players Prem clubs should be looking at.

Heath, manager of MLS side Minnesota United, said: “I remember asking four or five clubs in England to look at Alphonso Davies.

“The answer I got was, ‘I’m not so sure, he plays in the MLS’.

They could have had it for £2million, but they wouldn’t be buying it for £100m now.

“I think the perception is changing, but it’s slowly changing. There is still a lot of talent in the States flying under the radar of clubs in Europe.”

Who else should clubs compete against?

Heath – who coached the MLS All Star side in their victory over the top Liga MX talent in Mexico – is coaching one of them.

He said: “I keep telling people that there are players here who could do it in the Premier League, without a doubt.

“I keep telling people that Emmanuel Reynoso could play in the Premier League. He could go in there and do well, no doubt.

“He played number 10 for Boca Juniors. It comes with an incredible weight of expectation to wear the shirt once graced by Diego Maradona.

“Can he play for one of the top teams? That’s a question we can’t answer until it’s there.

“But I’m around top players and I know some of these guys are just as good technically and have a vision as good as anyone I’ve ever worked with.”
