The Prince of Wales arrived with his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, for the opening ceremony of the event. They arrived in a blue car with a soft top.

As they stepped into the ceremony, huge cheers erupted from a sold-out crowd.

This year’s Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham.

The royal couple arrived at the city’s Alexander Stadium tonight.

They did that at the same time as 72 other red, white or blue cars.

Together these formed a Union flag in the center of the stadium.

All cars would have links with Birmingham’s car industry.

After arriving at the stadium, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall took their seats to watch the Red Arrows flying team.

These left their iconic red, white and blue trail.

He also visited the main athletes’ village, where he met a number of athletes.

The opening of the event was surrounded by much excitement, with reports suggesting it will be the UK’s biggest sports competition since the London Olympics a decade ago.
