The King of the Future has been nominated as a patron of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, one of the oldest surgical facilities in the world. The title was previously held by Prince Phillip, who was highly acclaimed by the college for his role as Patron.

The Queen’s late husband died last April and has been sponsoring it for over 60 years after being praised for it in 1954.

Michael Griffin, President of the Royal University of Surgeons in Edinburgh, said it was a “privilege” for Prince Charles to be a new patron.

He added that he was honored to welcome the prince as a new patronage and praised Prince Phillip’s work at the university.

Griffin called Charles the Duke of Rothesay, as is known in Scotland.

He states: “It is an honor to welcome the Duke of Rothesay as a patronage of the Royal University of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

“The Duke of Edinburgh played a very important role in the history of the university for 66 years as His Royal Highness as Patronage, who recognized in 2015 for the construction of Prince Philip’s building.

“The involvement of the Duke with fellows and officers in the opening of the building was extraordinary, and through his patronage, His Highness was very interested in the advancement of the surgical profession and its patient care.”

He concluded that: “I am very much looking forward to working with the Duke of Rothesay.”
