According to a brutal statement from a royal editor, the reason for the fake royal tour of Colombia is that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want to do “self-promotion.”
In The Sun's podcast about the Sussexes' plans to travel to the South American country known for its coffee and drug barons, royal editor Matt Wilkinson and royal journalist Victoria Murphy gave their thoughts on the trip.
Prince Harry and Meghan arrive in Colombia today (Thursday) at the invitation of Vice President Francia Márquez, where they will participate in several events, including a forum against cyberbullying.
The Duke and Duchess are in the South American country for the first time and will first visit the capital Bogota before travelling to Cartagena and Cali on the Caribbean and Pacific coasts, where they are expected at the weekend.
The expedition follows the perceived success of Prince Harry and Meghan's trip to Nigeria in May this year, which was seen by many as a boost to the couple's fame.
In an interview with The Sun's royal podcast, editor Matt Wilkinson said one of the main reasons the Sussexes went to South America was “self-promotion”.
Royal journalist Victoria Murphy added: “It's a really good question, why are they going to Colombia rather than another country? Yes, they've been invited, but they've probably had a lot of invitations, you don't just make a business plan or a career plan based on who you invite.
“They must have their own reasons for saying yes to this, and I find that a little baffling.”
