Queen complained of inequality through Dr Shola – ‘Why do we have a monarchy again?’ | Royal | News

The lawyer and human rights activist wrote on Twitter about the prospect that the monarch will receive the bonus during a cost of living crisis. The author of ‘This is Why I Resist: Do Not Define My Black Identity’ described the inequality as “astonishing” and asked “Why do we have a monarchy again?”

She said: “The Queen’s revenue must therefore rise to £ 30 million while the working class Briton loses revenue in #CostOfLivingCrisis.

“Wow. Why do we have a monarchy again?

“Inequality is staggering at ALL levels.”

The queen is going to receive the bonus due to a little known rule which means that the size of the taxpayer-funded grant to finance the monarchy can never decrease.

The royal family’s income is partly generated by the Sovereign Allowance funded by the taxpayers and paid by the Government.

It is currently £ 86.3 million a year.

The size of the grant is usually equal to 15 percent of the profits made by the Crown Estate.

It has since been raised to 25 per cent to fund renovations at Buckingham Palace.

Consequently, the size of the taxpayer fund can never decrease, even if profit from the Crown Estate does.

According to the i, this will mean that the queen will receive an extra £ 27 million in revenue over the next two years.

The anti-monarchy pressure group Republic wrote on Twitter, and is furious at the move, which it describes as “indefensible”.

They said: “If Crown Estate profits fall to zero, the Sovereign Allowance will remain at £ 86 million for next year.

“This emphasizes the point we have often made that the grant comes from the government, not from the Crown Estate.

“This arrangement is unique. Every other public body has to submit proposed budgets and then negotiate how much money they will get next year, based on what they spent in the previous year and what they expect to need in the future.

“For the royals, they only get big increases year after year and their funding can never be cut, other than funding for schools, hospitals or the police.

“The royals do not have to justify their spending to ensure any increase in their budget, and they do not have to negotiate or face the possibility of cuts.

“While public services have been facing severe cuts for ten years and public sector workers have seen their revenues fall in real terms, the Sovereign Allowance has increased by more than 55% since 2012.

“The Sovereign Allowance is clearly absurd and indefensible. It is also deeply dishonest. “
