While PC shipments have seen the steepest drop in nine years, researchers suspect Apple experienced a nearly 10% year-over-year growth, with about 6.4 million Macs in the second quarter of 2022.
According to researchers at GartnerApple took fourth place in worldwide shipments this year, with 8.8% of the market. Apple shipped an estimated 6.37 million Macs in 2Q22, compared to 5.82 million in 2Q21.
Lenovo remained the dominant market share at 24.8%, despite a 12.5% year-over-year decline.
HP and Dell held 18.8% and 18.5% of the global market, down 27.5% and 5.2% year-on-year, respectively.
Gartner researchers believe that Apple was the only manufacturer on the list to see growth in the past 12 months.
Apple’s biggest growth was in the Americas, where it grew 19.5% year over year and shipped 3.13 million units in the US. Its US market share is now estimated at 15.3%, up from 10.5% it had in 2021.
IDC released his own estimates on Monday, claiming Apple was down 22.5% year-over-year worldwide.
Research from these firms should be taken with a grain of salt, as it is difficult for researchers to deduce actual numbers. It’s difficult to judge a company’s accuracy, since Apple doesn’t offer unit sales for Mac on its quarterly investment visits.
