CHILD CARE and career counseling are the most ‘family-friendly’ jobs according to parents.
Research of 2,000 working parents with children ages 2-17 revealed the industries most likely to ease the struggles of parenting, with popular benefits such as flexible hours and working from home.
Other occupations considered good for new parents include accounting, teaching assistant, health and safety, or human resources.
It also found that nearly half (48 percent) of parents wish they could work in a more family-friendly environment.
And only 18 percent find returning to work after having a child “seamless.”
The top factors that new parents value most when returning to the workplace were an understanding boss (34 percent) and friendly coworkers (40 percent).

A spokesperson for Open Study Schoolwhich provides adults with the opportunity to study new qualifications from home, said: “As we pass milestones in life, our priorities and goals can change.
“For some people, having a family is the most important thing to them and they like to put their careers in the background.
“For others, the exact opposite is true: they want to continue to excel in their careers and will let others help more in raising the family.
“Of course it’s possible to have both, that’s why it’s very important to be in the right career or even in the right company.”
The survey also found that 44 percent of respondents want an easy commute after returning to work after childhood.
But 57 percent say their work priorities didn’t change after having their first child.

Of those whose life goals did change, 48 percent no longer wanted to work long hours and 44 percent had finished working on weekends.
Nearly a third (31 percent) changed jobs after returning to work after having children, and many entered health care or social care.
While the study revealed the roles adults consider good for working parents, it also revealed the jobs deemed bad for work-life balance.
Top of the list was being a police officer, because of all the paperwork and late shifts that officers have to go through, according to the OnePoll figures.
This was followed by lawyers, journalists and security guards, while 28 percent believe being a surgeon is not a particularly family-friendly role.
The Open Study College spokesperson added: “The roles in our list are what respondents consider to be non-family-friendly careers.
“That’s certainly not to say there aren’t police or event management positions that aren’t suitable for people with children.
“In fact, as the listings show, many consider event management, for example, to be a perfectly family-friendly job.”
