Thousands of residents of Ibadan, the capital of the state of Oyo, are currently struggling due to the sudden shortage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as gasoline in the old town.
DAILY POST correspondent monitoring the situation in Ibadan reports that the city has been running a fuel shortage since Monday.
However, on Thursday and Friday, the situation got worse as a majority of gas stations closed their gates to customers.
Areas such as Mokola, Agodi Gate, Secretariat Road and Total Garden, Iwo Road, Dugbe, Iyaganku, Sabo, Apata, Ologuneru, Eleyele, Ring Road and Adamasingba still witness massive scarcity.
Most gas stations belonging to the Association of Independent Marketers Association have closed their gates, while the gas stations that are now open are selling fuel at high prices.
While some independent marketers sell at N180 or N185, others sell at N200 or N250.
Gas stations of major marketers such as BOVAS, SAO and GASTAB that are open for business sell on N165.
But major marketers like Mobil, Total, Oando and Conoil have completely closed their gates to customers.
The fuel situation in the state has now led to long lines of cars, motorcycles and tricycles at the few gas stations open for business.
Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Oyo State, Mr Bukola Mutiu, speaking with our correspondent, said the situation is due to the upcoming Eld-Kabir festival.
“This is a festive period”.
