Rishi Sunakwho remains in charge with the support of Conservative MPs clashed with Liz Truss within minutes of tonight’s leadership debate. The foreign minister called the former chancellor and pointed out that she was against his increase in national insurance. She personally accused him of raising taxes to age 70.
Mr Sunak swept back to Ms Truss, who remains in third place among MP supporters.
He accused her of “economics for nothing” by promising unfunded tax cuts.
The frontrunner said: “Economics is not conservative, it is socialism!”
The heated discussion erupted during a discussion about how the candidates would tackle the growing cost of living.
