HOUSTON, Texas – A robbery suspect is dead after shooting a police officer in the face in Missouri City, Texas. The shooting happened after a police chase of a man suspected of a robbery that occurred on the north side of Harris County, Houston.
Missouri City Police Department officials report that an officer saw a vehicle related to a 2 a.m. Saturday morning robbery from north Harris Couth, Fox 26 Houston reported. Officers followed the vehicle and called for backup as it left a gas station in Fondren and Main Streets at approximately 2:30 a.m.
The suspect then stopped at a home on Corsair’s 15,500 block in southwest Houston. As officers approached, the unidentified suspect opened fire and punched a female officer in the face and foot.
Officers loaded the injured officer into a patrol car and rushed her to nearby Memorial Hermann Hospital.
A foot chase ensued, the local Fox station reported. Officers found the suspect hidden a few blocks away in the backyard of a house on Winter Briars Dr. in Missouri City.
The suspected robber opened fire on officers who returned fire and hit the suspect multiple times. The subject died at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston after being transported.
Neighbor Carolyn Smith, who has relatives with the police, told Fox 26 that she was very concerned about the gunfire in her neighborhood.
“The bullets didn’t go into the house. Bullets could have entered the house,” she told the reporter. “The car could have come through the window so I feel much better to know that God protected my son who was here last night.”
Gunfire in this subdivision of Maywood Drive is apparently not uncommon. Just five weeks ago, another deadly shooting occurred in the same block, Houston Police Department reports:
HPD police officers responded to a shooting at the above address and discovered that two men had been shot. A man was pronounced dead by Houston Fire Department paramedics. The second man was transported to a hospital in the region in unknown condition.
A preliminary investigation and witness statements revealed that two groups of men got into an argument, which led to a gunfight. One man in each group was hit by the gunfire.
The robbery suspect who shot Officer Sepulveda in the face and foot has not been identified at this time pending a report from the medical examiner.
Agent Sepulveda was transported to Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman, whose jurisdiction covers the first robbery, tweeted that Sepulveda is now reportedly in good condition and expected to survive her injuries.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Crystal Sepulveda, who was shot in the face and foot early this morning by an armed carjacking suspect.
She is in good condition and will survive her injuries.
