Russia reacts to NATO as it intensifies its attacks on Ukraine – “everything is bombarded” | World | News

During the summit, members of the alliance condemned Russia’s attack on Ukrainian citizens by attacking shopping centers, calling it the greatest “direct threat” to Western security. President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the summit via videolink and warned NATO members that Russia and Ukraine would need to be defeated within a year in order not to see the war as a collective failure.

He states: “Next year could be even worse. Ukraine, as well as some other states, probably members of the alliance, will be attacked by Russia.

“And it will be our common failure, Ukraine and NATO.”

Putin’s army continued to attack eastern Ukraine on Thursday as Ukrainian authorities attempted to evacuate residents from the front lines of Lysychans’k.

Lysychans’k was a new focus of the Russian attack, and about 15,000 inhabitants stayed as their city was mercilessly bombarded.

Governor Serhiy Gaidai said on Ukrainian television:

“Russians are always aggressive. There is no disappointment.

“Absolutely everything has been bombarded.”

Meanwhile, in South Kherson, Ukraine has defended the city on a cannon strike and pushed back Russian troops, according to one of President Zelensky’s advisers.

NATO Secretary-General Jason Stoltenberg also announced a review of NATO’s defense of 300,000 people at the eastern border of the alliance prior to the summit.

A new strategy currently underway will increase the number of quick response units by a factor of seven and send a stronger message that the alliance is very vigilant.

In response to invitations to Finland and Sweden, Putin has shown a threat to the alliance that Russia will respond in-kind to an increase in what it interprets as a threat to Russia’s security.
