Yan Thomas has spoken candidly about parenting after his fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh welcomed their second child together.

The father also praised his two-year-old son Roman, who he says really took the challenge of being a big brother.

The 38-year-old former Coronation Street star welcomed daughter Lilah Rae with former The Only Way Is Essex star Mecklenburgh, 30, in May.

Speaking to the Standard, he said: “A newborn is always quite full. It’s hectic chaos, but calm in my house, that’s the only way I can say it. We are all just in our nest right now enjoying the new arrival.”

Thomas and Mecklenburgh are also proud parents of toddler Roman. He also shares 13-year-old daughter Scarlett with ex Tina O’Brien.

Despite his young years, he said that Roman turns out to be a great big brother and even helps his parents with the housework.

He said: “Roman knows exactly what’s going on. He is very caring and attentive and helps in the household. And sometimes you say ‘oh, get us your diapers’ and help us and he does it, other times he says ‘NO!’ We just have to play along. He’s been really great.”

During our chat, the former Celebrity Big Brother winner also reflected on his time on the Australian soap Neighbours, which will end after 37 years later this month.

Thomas – who played Rafael Humphrey in 2018, a British tourist with a checkered past – said: “It was one of the most wonderful times for me to go to Australia and wake up and see beautiful beaches.

“I think it’s very much like Coronation Street, it’s a real family show, a team effort and about togetherness and I think all [the cast] will all be upset when they see the show going, knowing they can’t see each other every day.

“I know it’s a shame, for all soap operas you become like a family. It’s going to be a sad time to watch the final episode.”
