The mayor of London has argued that Brexit is “the greatest piece of self-inflicted damage ever inflicted on a country”. His proposal that Britain should rejoin the EU’s internal market came after the blows to British trade, and the progress of the Northern Ireland bill to change the Brexit agreement in the House of Commons.

Another reader, username bigzap, wrote: “Give it a break, we made our decision by a majority vote. Brexit is here to stay.”

Others, however, have argued that the UK would benefit from access to or rejoining the internal market.

Username LameDuckJohnson said: “Of course we have to rejoin the internal market, we should never have left.”

As the username PeterNoble said: “Yes, of course. We are the first country in history to impose tariff sanctions on ourselves.”

And the username RodneyThomas said: “Joining the internal market and customs union is the only way to sort out the miserable economic situation in which the country is.”

Meanwhile, the username SALTY said: “We must do whatever is best for our economy. Ideology has no place in a meaningful forward-looking country. ”
