Sam Faiers’s mother has spoken out in shock after claiming Ferne McCann called her daughter a ‘fat c*nt’ in a leaked audio recording.

Ferne has been accused of bodyshaming her former Towie co-star Sam weeks after she gave birth to her third child, Edward, in May.

In the audio, the reality television personality can also be heard describing her friend’s thighs as ‘so big’. It remains unclear as to whether Ferne was reading a message or expressing her true opinion.

Sam’s mother Suzie Wells voiced her outrage over the leaked message on social media on Wednesday morning, and in a statement wrote: ‘So, after a few days of hurt and upset I can no longer sit back and say nothing.

‘The vile voice note has been circulating social media, and now press articles are calling it a “feud”, which it is not.

‘This has come as a complete shock to myself and my family. Ferne has always been a very close family friend to all of us for over the past 20 years.’

She continued: ‘It appears this voice note was sent just weeks after Samantha gave birth back in May. Since this voice note has surfaced more has been sent – very upsetting nasty things.

‘We are as shocked as you are! Nobody should ever speak about their friends like this ever!

‘My girls are my absolute everything and I’ll do anything to protect them. I don’t have anything else to say on the matter.’

A source told Metro.co.uk: ‘Naturally Sam is incredibly hurt and upset by these comments, especially from someone she considered to be a good friend, she’s at a loss as to why Ferne has decided to speak out about her in such a derogatory way.’

Ferne is yet to speak out on the matter.

Sam and Ferne have been close friends for years, having both starred alongside each other in ITV’s Towie.

The duo marked many a milestone together too, including celebrating birthdays and the arrival of their children.

Last year, Ferne shared an emotional tribute to Sam on her 30th birthday on Instagram.

‘Wow it’s been emotional looking back at all of these pictures,’ she wrote at the time.

‘So many laughs, parties, and special memories made. You my darling have given me so many memories that I will cherish forever.’

Ferne also celebrated her 31st birthday with both Sam and her sister Billie in September 2021 and the pair posed for many photos together.

The women both fronted their very own reality shows about motherhood, with Sam’s The Mummy Diaries airing before Ferne’s series First Time Mum.

Sam gave birth to her third child, Edward, with longtime partner Paul Knightley, 34, in May, giving their two eldest children, Paul Jr, six, and Rosie, four, an adorable little brother to fawn over.

In July, she shared the dramatic way in which Edward came into the world despite hoping for a waterbirth.

‘The whole time, I didn’t sit down as I didn’t want to slow down the labour, so I was just pacing around,’ she said.

‘I’d had Rosie in the water and it was beautiful, so I thought it would be the same with Edward. But when I got in the water, I just couldn’t get comfortable and immediately felt like I needed to get out.’

She continued to OK!: ‘Instead, I went to a corner of our kitchen – Paul was standing behind me and I had my hands on his neck. How he held my bodyweight I don’t know, because I was putting all my weight onto him.

‘He said a few days later he was still aching from it! So I was standing but squatting a little bit, then the midwife came underneath ready to catch the baby.

‘Little Paul and Rosie were next to me and I gave birth to him standing up.’
