TL; DR
- A Samsung 3nm manufacturing process for chips is being developed.
- This means that Samsung was the first to use this new process and beat its competitor TSMC.
- Samsung claims that these new chips can be up to 45% more power efficient than 5nm chips.
Manufacturers continue to compete to produce faster, less power-consuming, and more heat-efficient chips. The next big step in this process is 3 nanometers, which is the next miniaturization.
I thought the TSMC would land first at this milestone, but the Samsung 3nm process seems to be the first.pear Bloomberg Report (via 9to5Google), Samsung officially started production of these new chips.

According to Samsung, the 3nm chip can provide up to 45% better power efficiency than the 5nm chip. By the way, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 are 5nm chips. Unfortunately, Samsung did not provide a comparison with 4nm chips such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen1.
Elsewhere, Samsung claims that a 3nm chip could improve performance by 23% compared to a 5nm build.
Samsung’s first batch of these chips is sent to a special system. Eventually, we plan to move to more common systems such as smartphones.
