Schoolboy, 13, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after 13-year-old girl is stabbed in park

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after stabbing a girl, also 13.
South Yorkshire Police were called to Hillsborough Park in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, around 9pm on Tuesday after reports that a 13-year-old girl had been stabbed.
The victim was stabbed in the abdomen and taken to hospital, where her condition is stable.
A 13-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.
Detective Inspector Nikki Leach said: “We know this incident will have caused great concern to the local community and beyond.

“We have arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection with the incident and our investigation continues to establish the full circumstances of what led to the victim’s stabbing.
“We believe that the victim and suspect are known to each other and we are confident there is no greater risk to the public.
“Agents remain on the scene and are conducting additional patrols to reassure you.
“If you see our agents, please speak to them – they are there to help and support you.”
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is advised to contact South Yorkshire Police.
