Scooby Doo character Velma can finally be revealed as a lesbian

Scooby Doo fans have finally gotten confirmation of what many knew to be true – that Velma is absolutely gay.

A clip from the franchise’s new movie Trick or Treat Scooby Doo shows the Mystery Inc. member stunned and speechless when he comes face to face with costume designer Coco Diablo.

It’s a scene that finally reveals onscreen what James Gunn, the creator of the early live-action films, wanted but never could, Variety reported.

Both Gunn and Tony Cervone, the Scooby Doo series supervisor, previously confirmed the character’s sexuality, but were unable to get it on screen.

Gunn explained in a 2020 Tweet that the character was explicitly gay in a 2001 script. having a boyfriend (the sequel)”.

Also in 2020, Cervone confirmed in an Instagram post that the character was gay, not bi.

“We always planned for Velma to act a little out of character when she was dating Shaggy because that relationship was wrong for her… You can’t like it, but this was our intention.”

Now that Velma is finally out and proud of the screen, it seems like Twitter is loving it.

“Velma is getting her lesbian debut after five decades, thanks,” one user tweeted.

“OMG LESBIAN VELMA FINALLY” read another tweet that has been retweeted over 30,000 times.
