Season 4 follow-up: 12 burning questions

Season 4 follow-up: 12 burning questions

While Shiv was freaking out about GoJo’s takeover, Kendall started jumping out of his funk. But if the takeover might have gone through, could he jump back in? And can the death cover-up in Scotland continue – or will poor little rich boy Kendall finally have to pay the piper?

4. What’s going on between Logan and Kerry?

The Roy kids suspect that Logan is having an affair with his hyper-competent PA Kerry (Zoe Winters). The smoking gun – make that a smoking smoothie – takes the form of those health potions she gave him. Connor, who has never been right about anything in his life, is disturbed that the mixture is a virility-enhancing mix of maca roots, almonds and walnuts. Does Logan, at his age, plan another heir? We learned that he sees Kerry as more than an assistant after telling Roman on their journey to meet Matsson that she was a “pretty woman”.

5. Will Willa marry Connor and call the White House?

“Fk it, how bad can it be?” were the words with which Connor’s muse and transactional friend (played by Justine Lupe) accepted his proposal of marriage in Italy. A nanosecond of weakness gripped her as Connor showed a flash of vulnerability. She had, for a heartbeat, felt sorry for him and maybe even loved him. But it was gone as soon as it arrived, as we saw when she threw that haunted look at Kerry—another volunteer prisoner in Royland. Will Willa go through with the marriage? And what if Connor’s presidential campaign succeeds and he ends up in the White House? Is Willa a Waiting First Lady? As real American politics shows us, stranger things have happened.

6. What role will Marcia play?

Logan’s wife, Marcia (Hiam Abbass), is a smart cookie in a room full of permanently browned turnips. She and Logan are estranged after he humiliates her by seemingly flirting with Holly Hunter’s Rhea Jarrell (although an affair has never been confirmed). But the third Mrs. Roy was at Caroline’s wedding in Italy. She also has ambitions for her son from her first marriage, Amir (Darius Homayoun), who is – and that’s not saying much – at least as capable as the Roys. And so, while Marcia has been on the periphery recently, expect her to have a role before this tragicomedy is complete.

7. Will Roman creep back to Logan?

“Rom, you know Daddy will never choose you because he thinks there’s something wrong with you,” Shiv told Roman when he hesitated to betray their father. Logan had received a promise from Matsson that Roman would play a key role in the Waystar-GoJo takeover – and Roman half believed the GoJo guru was sincere. Even during that final confrontation with his kids, Logan had tried to come between Roman and his siblings. Roman stood his ground: but with Logan outsmarting his children, could the neediest of his brood be tempted to turn to the dark side?

8. Logan’s News Network has boosted right-wing politician Jeryd Mencken. Can the Roys pilot their latest creation?

Overseen by hapless Tom, the Fox News-esque American Television Network has weighed in behind the presidential campaign of far-right provocateur Jeryd Mencken (Justin Kirk) — whose platform Shiv describes as “aristo-populism… rape is natural, it’s all red pill , Darling”.

That Mencken will be seen this season is confirmed by the trailers. But if ATN helped spawn a demagogic monster, what will be the potential impact on the GoJo-Waystar deal – and Tom, for that matter? And what about Shiv, for whom left-wing politics is a lifelong passion-slash hobby? Logan aside, if she tries to restart her political career, could the Mencken connection come back to haunt her?
