Sir Cliff Richard thinks he may have an edge in his unexpected chart battle Stormy.

The two unlikely rivals are both chasing the coveted number one spotand the Mistletoe and Wine singer joked that his Christmas With Cliff collection is stronger than the grime star’s new record This Is What I Mean.

Reflecting on the seasonal scrap for first place, Sir Cliff – who is no stranger to this situation – told Good Morning Britain: ‘If you want to sell records, between October and December is the place to do it.

“So he does, and I do, but I never got through it easily. It’s always been a competition with someone else, and if you have a better record, then you have it.

‘This is Stormy‘s album, I was looking at this. There are 12 songs on his album. My album has 13 songs!’

The artists dropped their latest records on Friday (Nov. 25), and it’s all set to play for tonight’s weekly reveal.

On Wednesday, the sales flash revealed just 600 chart units between Stormzy on top and Cliff in second, so it could really go either way.

However, Stormzy, real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr, is no stranger to securing the top spot, having already done so with debut album Gang Signs & Prayers in 2017 and again with Heavy Is The Head in 2019.

Sir Cliff’s new album is his first holiday-themed release in 19 years, while the collection will mark his 47th Top 10 solo album in a recording career that has now spanned more than 60 years.

He has had seven solo chart hits to date, including 21 Today (1961), The Young Ones (1961), Summer Holiday (1963), 40 Golden Greats (1977), Love Songs (1981), Private Collection (1988) and The Album (1993), meaning Christmas With Cliff would be his first number one in 29 years.

“This album isn’t just mine, it belongs to all of us who were involved in making it, and I hope we add something special to your Christmas season,” he recently said of the festive release.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV1.
