The nomination of the documentary about Sir Peter Jackson’s passion project, The Beatles: Get Back, for: five Emmys awards is a testament to Wellington’s film community, a company spokesperson said.

Film producer Clare Olssen, of Jackson’s film company Wingnut Films, said he was delighted with the news and incredibly proud of the team.

†[The Emmy nominations] speak to the exceptional film talent we have here in Wellington.”

The awards include Outstanding Documentary or Non-fiction Series, Outstanding Directing for a Documentary or Non-fiction Program, Outstanding Picture Editing For A Non-fiction Programme, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Nonfiction Programme, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Nonfiction Programme, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Nonfiction Program and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Nonfiction Program.

Film editor Jabez Olssen​, who received a nomination for Picture Editing, said working on the film was “one of the great privileges of my career”.

“It’s a real honor to be nominated for an Emmy Award now,” he said. “I’m so happy that our work is being recognized in this way.”

Mixer Re-recording Brent Burge​, who received a nomination for Sound Mixing, said they’ve “rewritten the audio rulebook” to create a soundtrack that matches the fantastic quality of the photo achieved by Park Road Post.

“By receiving the honor of this nomination, we can appreciate how proud we are of that achievement. It is a huge honor to be recognized along with other exceptional nominees.”

The Beatles: Get Back was developed over four years at Park Road Post in Miramar.

Jackson credited the project with helping him through much of the Covid-19 lockdown period.

The entire documentary was made from never-before-seen footage shot in 22 days in 1969 as the Beatles worked together to create what would become the album. leave it be, Released 15 months later with a movie made by Michael Lindsay-Hogg.

The winners of the Emmy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, September 13, New Zealand time.
