ŠKODA recently unveiled the ENYAQ iV 80 FestEVal, a version of its iV 80 wagon that comes with essential items for camping, music festivals or other outdoor adventures.
Before the summer of 2022, ŠKODA UK developed and built the unique ENYAQ iV 80 FestEVal. The trunk-mounted camping box with pull-out bed, luxury roof tent and additional camping facilities ensure emission-free travel and overnight stays at festivals and camping trips.
“Every element of the ENYAQ iV 80 FestEVal camping setup is designed to be effortless.” the company said in a press release detailing the project. “Space-saving camping chairs and table are set up and folded in seconds, ready for use as soon as the campers arrive. After the music on the stage has stopped, campers can continue the party through the ENYAQ iV’s eight-speaker sound system, while mood lighting in the interior adds ambiance in the evening.”
The main attraction at the ENYAQ iV 80 FestEVal is an innovative boot-based camping unit designed by the Czech manufacturer EGOE. The EGOE “box” is one of the first in its size and dimensions, which fits exactly in the spacious 585 liter trunk. It slides easily out of the car’s trunk on smooth-running rails, creating a comfortable and sturdy double bed, complete with memory foam mattress, as well as a generous amount of storage space underneath. It is ideal for people on the go who need to sleep or park at their destination while traveling without lying flat. The unit’s versatility and design allow the rear seat to be used even while travelling, and when parked at a campsite, it offers one of two sleeping areas in ENYAQ iV 80 FestEVal.
For those who want to camp in style and comfort, the ENYAQ iV 80 FestEVal also comes with a high-end roof top tent. The suite-style sleeping space takes the serenity of electric cars to new heights, with a memory foam mattress, LED lighting and a panoramic view through the skylight. The tent itself can be set up and taken down in minutes and has an interior net for storage, a solar-powered fan and an integrated flashlight for added comfort and convenience.
ŠKODA says the tent doesn’t take up too much reach when folded, as it has an aerodynamic design that matches the vehicle’s already slim body. They give a drag coefficient of 0.257, which isn’t great, but compared to most motorhomes, it’s not bad.
The ENYAQ iV is the ideal vehicle for all-electric road trips, with an industry-leading interior volume of 585 liters (1,710 liters with rear seats folded) and a range of up to 538 miles between charges. With speeds up to 135 kW, 80% charged in less than 30 minutes and over 10,000 public charging stations in the UK, the ENYAQ iV is perfect for long journeys and spontaneous adventures.
The only real question I have at this point is why we don’t see these types of vehicles in the United States. EVs are an ideal camping vehicle in most respects. They are quiet, have a long range and can be quite comfortable with the right equipment. They provide power when boondocking or can charge in RV parks while you sleep. So far we’ve seen a few companies like Rivian and Bollinger try to break into the US adventure vehicle market with electric pickup trucks and SUVs, but nothing really geared toward the camping and adventure market based on cars and SUVs. cars.
