An unknown number iPad mini 6 users discover their iPads won’t charge after updating to iPadOS 15.5.
While there’s plenty of evidence on Apple’s support forums and on social media that the problem exists, AppleInsider was unable to reproduce the issue on several iPad mini 6 devices. The Apple company has reportedly issued a memo about the issue to service providers.
Apple’s memo states that the company is investigating the issue, but also that it is undoubtedly a software issue and not a hardware issue. Apple says replacing the battery in an affected device won’t fix the problem.
It also says that replacing the iPad mini 6 itself may not solve the problem either. So far, no pattern has been reported for which devices will have the problem and which will not.
Therefore, the best advice to users is not to upgrade to iPadOS 15.5 until the issue is resolved. However, that update was released in Mayso it’s likely most users have updated now.
Apple recommends restarting the device when the device fails to charge, saying that it will work as a temporary solution.
A beta version of the next update, iPadOS 15.6, has already issued to developers. It is not yet known whether this solves the problem.
