Government officials in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa said at least 21 teenagers were “dead” at the bar on Sunday morning under uncertain circumstances. Young people may have been “exposed to some form of poison.”
DispatchLive said he sent reporters to Enyobeni Tavern early in the morning of June 26, after learning that locals had requested “ambulance assistance” at a pub on the outskirts of the Eastern Cape in Scenery Park.
“In the tavern, the body is scattered on the tables, chairs and floors. There are no obvious signs of injury,” Dispatch Live relayed.
The Eastern Cape state government told reporters later on Sunday: “Eight girls and thirteen boys died in the tavern. […] 17 people died on the scene and the rest died in the hospital. “
Bheki Cele, the local police minister, added that the morgue clerk, who currently holds the bodies of the victims, described the youngest victim as 13 years old and the oldest at 17 years old.

Unathi Binqose, a safety official in the Eastern Cape, visited Enyobeni Tavern at dawn on June 26, and said, “Empty bottles of alcohol, wigs, and even pastel purple” Happy Birthday “on the street outside the two-story bar. He explained that he saw “sashes” scattered around.

“”[N]Alternatively, you are allowed to sell alcohol to minors. And it’s a criminal offense because everyone violates the law, and that violation is a prosecutable crime, “ECLB representative Zola Tyikwe told South Africa’s Eyewitness News.
An investigation by the Eastern Cape State Police on the cause of the deaths of 21 people at Anyobeni Tavern on June 27 continued at a press conference on Monday.
