Speaker Lindsay Hoyle burst out at MPs who applauded after Gary Sambrook of Birmigham called on him to resign.
Speaker Hoyle cut: “May I say you should be ashamed of clapping!
He exclaimed, “This is not a debate. This is not a debating society.”
Hearing more clapping, he angrily pointed his finger and said, “These are the Prime Minister’s questions. I want to go through the questions. There are other people who want to get my attention.”
“The way to do it is not to clap,” he snapped.
In response, Boris Johnson said, “Mr. Chairman, there is a simple reason why they want me gone.”
To the cheers of the opposition, he continued: And this is because they know, Mr President, that otherwise we will go ahead and fulfill our mandate – and win another general election.
“And that’s the reality, Mr President,” he sneered.
