“First of all, it’s nice to have a bogey-free round at Firestone,” the 51-year-old New Zealander told PGA.com.

“It’s such a golf course, you just have to keep going. I scrambled nicely the last few holes.

“All in all just a solid day. A few more putts would be nice, but hey, at Firestone, just [hitting] fairways and greens around here.”

Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Josh Geary (71-67) made the cut by two with a four-birdie 32 coming home to the Barbasol event in Kentucky on the PGA Tour. Canadian Adam Svensson (62-67) leads at 15-under.

American Cameron Tringale (61-72) leads the Scottish Open with three. The NZ’s Ryan Fox (74-68) made the cut by coming home two with a three-birdie 33.
