The last season of Weird stuff turned out to be his darkest yet, but according to the showrunners, the ending could have been a lot worse.

Fans of the hit Netflix show are still reeling from the emotional and devastating season four finale which saw the sinister events come to a head in Hawkins and the Upside Down, with the gang hatching a plan to take out Vecna ​​(Jamie Campbell Bower).

Though the team teased major deaths in the final episode, the original members including Eleven, (Millie Bobby Brown) Mike, (Finn Wolfhard) Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), and Will (Noah Schnapp) came out alive.

However, in the two-hour season finale, Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) is defeated by Vecna’s curse and appears to die in the arms of Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), allowing Vecna ​​to fully unleash the power of the Upside Down.

Two days after the final battle, Mike, Will, Eleven, Argyle (Eduardo Franco), and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) discover that Max is alive, but in a coma in the hospital.

While Max’s fate is unknown, the show’s creators Matt and Ross Duffer revealed that they were considering killing her character altogether.

Speaking about the finale on the Stranger Things aftershow, Matt explained, “It was discussed as a possibility. For a while that was what was going to happen.

“But we ended up in this … we wanted to close it with a question at the end of the season.”

“It’s still very dark and if Max will be okay, we just don’t really know,” he added.

“We wanted to let it air and move on to season 5.”

This comes after actress Millie, 18, criticized the writers for not being in it ‘kill’ more characters.
