A WOMAN has been hospitalized with serious injuries after a sexual assault in a beach town.

Residents of Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, found the victim “in distress” early Sunday morning.

Police officers rushed to the Sidney Street scene after being alerted by members of the public concerned for the woman’s safety.

She was treated for her injuries in hospital and is now being cared for by specially trained officers.

A man has been arrested in connection with the nauseating attack, police said.

After the attack, a terrified female resident said: GrimsbyLive: “I live on my own and now I don’t want to go out one night.”

While another man said: “It’s a shock to see this on your doorstep. I woke up and saw it and wondered what had happened.”

In a statement, Humberside Police said: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of committing a serious assault after an incident in Sidney Street, Cleethorpes, in the early morning hours.

“We attended after a member of the public reported a woman in distress on the street.

“The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries for treatment and is supported by specially trained officers.

“Extensive investigations are underway and a security guard will remain on site while we conduct our investigation.

“We want to thank the community members who have supported us with our questions thus far.”

Police are calling on anyone with information about the attack to contact 101, citing log 146 dated April 17.
