Stylist Jeanne Yang — whose client list of stylish actors includes Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, Jason Momoa, Jamie Dornan, Simu Liu, Christian Bale and Regé-Jean Page — has discerning taste in both home design and clothing.

Twenty-two years ago, she and her husband, Scott Cort, bought an architecturally significant home in Woodland Hills, California, designed by the influential architect Richard Neutra†
Now the couple has decided to put the house on the market (with Allen Roth of Sotheby’s International Realty), putting it on the market for $3.3 million. The four-bedroom residence — known as the JN Baldwin House and located in the western San Fernando Valley — was built in 1962. Details faithfully preserved include an original built-in wall clock, sconces, and light switches, all chosen by Neutra. Original Neutra chalk drawings, blueprints and a construction book are also included in the offer.
Yang tells The Hollywood Reporter that she and Cort originally found the 3,062-square-foot home through an ad in the Los Angeles Times who misspelled the name of the famous architect, who was known for his pioneering embrace of indoor and outdoor living. “It was listed as a Richard Neuter,” Yang says.

The couple had been hunting for an architecturally significant home in Los Angeles. “We had just lost a house and I said, ‘We’ll never find a house like that again.’ I was so sad. And on a Sunday morning we went to the newsagent. Do you remember those things? And I took the LA Times and in the property section – this was before Realtor.com and Zillow – I saw this photo. I said, “That must be a Richard Neutra.”
Yang’s eye had been trained after a number of tours of Neutra homes in Southern California, including the Kaufmann Desert House in Palm Springs and VDL Research House in Silver Lake (which had been the architect’s own home).
Yang begged her husband to drive out at 7 that same morning to take a look at the Woodland Hills estate. “I said, ‘This is going to be my house.’” The couple won a bidding war for the house in 2000, paying (according to public records) $659,000.

The property, Yang says, was “in very excellent condition”. Over the years, she estimates that she and her husband have spent “probably over a million and a half” on renovations (including redecorating the kitchen twice and remodeling all three bathrooms), plus new landscaping. “We’ve done so many different things to make it really livable, but maintain its integrity,” Yang says. “We consulted with a few different architects and great contractors to make sure we were doing things consistent with the integrity of the design.”
Those upgrades mean the kitchen now has Sub-Zero, Wolf, Miele, and Gaggenau appliances, a Julien sink, Dornbracht hardware, and quartz countertops (“I didn’t want to have Formica,” Yang says), and there’s a new one. Toto Washlet in the primary bathroom. The outdoor living includes a swimming pool, mature orange and lemon trees, new bamboo deck and new outdoor lighting.

Yang says the best part of the house in her opinion—besides Neutra’s signature ribbon windows (meaning windows run the length of an entire façade)—is the way, which is up a long driveway and on a hilltop among mature trees.
“The persons who had the house built had written a letter to Neutra saying, ‘We don’t know if you would be interested in making us a very simple house, but we love your work.’ This was in 1961. He answered their letter and said, “I would if I could put the property in.” He was very picky about where he put everything so they drove around the neighborhood and chose this place on a small hill One of the most amazing things [today] is that when you’re in the living room, you don’t see any houses around. The fact that Neutra knew that 60 years later you would feel like you were in a tree house is an example of someone who was a fantastic architect.”

Yang, who joined Anonymous Content last year as a manager and producer (while running her styling business), says she wants to move. “With my new career in the city and with our daughters in college, we realized we wanted to downsize.” Her husband, Cort, is a luxury residential real estate consultant at Sotheby’s in Beverly Hills.
Yang adds, “I think it’s time for someone else to get a chance to live in what I consider a work of art.”
