Suella Braverman will support Liz Truss as the Tory leadership candidate who will “unleash the opportunities of Brexit” and cut taxes.
Mrs. Braverman, the Attorney General, was knocked out of the game on Thursday after winning the fewest votes in the second ballot of MPs.
She said in a statement: “I am truly grateful to everyone who supported me in the leadership elections. We must come together as a party and live up to the manifesto.
“Liz is the best person to seize the opportunities of Brexit and implement much-needed tax cuts.
“I am confident that she will defend freedom of expression, champion equal opportunities and take a strong stance on illegal immigration.
“It’s what the British people expect.”
Kemi Badenoch, another leadership rivalsaid she was “disappointed” that Mrs. Braverman would support Mrs. Truss.
Ms Badenoch told LBC: “Suella and I are friends, I am friends with… Tom Tugendhat also, Rishi and Liz were my senior ministers, so it’s all very close to home.
“We are all friends, so every time someone supports one person, there is another person who has been let down. But I’m in to win.
“I know people want to support the person they think is most likely to get them a job, or who’s been there the longest – that’s the easiest thing to do. The hard thing is to take a risk and try something different.”
