Meet Haigen Oakes, the intelligent five-year-old who puts our memory skills to shame.
Haigen, from Norwich, was playing on his father’s calculator when he discovered pi and quickly memorized it.
He later used his mother’s phone to look up the mathematical term on Google and was fascinated by the results.
Recently, he brought the number to 100 places, stunning his mother, Jessica Saunders.
“Haigen’s favorite toy is a calculator,” says Jessica, 33.
“I keep having to buy new ones for him because the battery is dead – that’s saying a lot, I guess.”
Haigen developed a talent for numbers in his early years, aided by his exceptionally good memory.
But he is strong in all his school subjects.
Jessica, who runs care homes, said: “Haigen has always been incredibly smart and absolutely obsessed with numbers.
Mathematics is his favorite subject, but he can spell just as well.
“When he started talking about pi, I was shocked because it’s not exactly a subject a five-year-old would normally be interested in.
“But he had been looking at it on my phone for ages and after a while he started blurting out the numbers.
“To my utter disbelief, he got all the numbers right – he just kept going.”
Jessica shared a video of Haigen’s trick online, where it received thousands of likes and comments from people stunned by the boy’s talent.
The mother is enthusiastic about Haigen’s academic prowess, but feels it is important not to put too much pressure on him at such a young age.
“It’s great to see how well he is doing in school,” she said. ‘He has a mathematical talent, that much is clear.
“But we’re not getting ahead of ourselves and the most important thing is that we don’t put any pressure on Haigen.
“We’ll see how he develops in the coming years, but right now we couldn’t be more proud of him.”
Haigen said, ‘When I’m older, I want to be a rocket scientist.
“I’m a human calculator and numbers are my favorite thing in the world!”
