'Supersonic' new battery fully charges phones in under 5 minutes and users are crying out they want that 'insane speed' now

SCIENTISTS have developed a new, groundbreaking charger that can fully charge a smartphone in less than five minutes.

Us telephones are capable of performing more tasks than ever before. But with a broader library of services comes a greater need for power.

The new charger has two USB-C ports, allowing users to charge two devices at the same time

Chinese researchers from electronics company Realme have unveiled a mega 320W fast charger that can recharge a phone's battery to 100% in 4.5 minutes.

With this, the manufacturer breaks the record previously held by smartphone maker Redmi, owned by Xiaomi. This manufacturer introduced a 300W charger that could charge devices in four minutes and 55 seconds.

For context: of apple fastest charger – which is used to power some of its newer iPhones – is 96W.

According to GSMArena, Realme's 'supersonic' charger can boost a smartphone's battery percentage from 0% to 26% in 60 seconds.

In less than two minutes the smartphone is half charged.

“To be a technology brand that better understands young users, we need to ensure our products meet their demand for speed,” said Francis Wong, head of product marketing at realme. in a promotional video on X.

How does it work?

Conventional chargers use electricity to power a single battery cell or multiple cells in a string.

But fast charging technology, as Realme recently revealed, relies on multiple battery cells in a single battery being supplied with power simultaneously.

Scientists at Realme miniaturized each battery cell into layered structures so they could cram more battery cells into a single adapter.

The company also unveiled an “AirGap” voltage transformer, which isolates high voltages from smartphone batteries.

This helps protect smartphones from electrical disturbances, such as power outages, and even the damaging effects of overheating or overcharging.

According to company representatives, the transformer uses something called “contactless electromagnetic conversion.”

It essentially lowers the voltage to 20 volts to extend the smartphone battery life.

It also ensures that the fast charger maintains 93% energy efficiency while charging.

The new charger has two USB-C ports, allowing users to charge two devices at the same time.

The maximum charging speeds would be 150W for Realme smartphones and 65W for compatible laptops.

The company is apparently planning to launch the new charger alongside its Realme 13-series smartphone, which the company itself says will be “available soon”.

Battery Tip: The '100% Myth' That's Killing Your Battery

Bystanders call the ultra-fast technology a “beast” and “absurd.”

In a message on RedditOne user commented: “My phone charges at 125W and it goes up to two percentage points and adds in real time. It takes almost no time to charge.

“This is an insane speed.”

Another added: “I don't understand how Chinese brands are so far ahead with their charging technology, while Samsung can't get their affairs in order.

“Of course, there's more to a phone than just charging it, but I wish I could quickly charge my phone before I hit the road.”
