The House Committee investigating the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 was reconvened on Tuesday and was rushed to deal with what was described as a batch of recently obtained evidence. Announced that it will hold a session.
Prior to the announcement, the Commission was not expected to hold another inquiry until next month after the Independence Day adjournment on July 4.
The newly added inquiry is scheduled for 1:00 pm Eastern Standard Time and a video of the session is available at nytimes.com.
What does the hearing focus on?
The committee did not provide details on what the session would cover or which witnesses would be called.
How many more public hearings are there?
Prior to the announcement on Monday, the Commission had two additional hearings focusing on the mob that attacked the Capitol in July and the length of time immediately after the building’s breach, where Mr. Trump did not stop the attackers. I was expected to return at the meeting.
What happens when the hearing is over?
The Commission will publish its final report in September, before the midterm elections.
