Chinese phone maker Tecno today announced it has started production of the Phantom V fold in India as part of its commitment to the “Make in India” program. It will be manufactured at Tecno’s factory in Noida, which is currently capable of producing 24 million phones per year.
The brand also announced that the Phantom V Fold will launch in India on April 11, with early access sales on Amazon starting April 12. The foldable smartphone retails for INR 77,777 ($945/€870) in India, but this price only applies for limited stock and the brand has not disclosed how much the Phantom V Fold will cost in India later.
The Phantom V Fold is Tecno’s first foldable smartphone and features the Dimensity 9000+ SoC at the helm with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage (we don’t know which configuration is coming to India). The FullHD+ cover display has a diagonal of 6.42 inches, while the folding screen has a diagonal of 7.85 inches with a resolution of 2,296 x 2,000 pixels. Both are LTPO-type panels with a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 1100 nits.
The Tecno Phantom V Fold has a 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging support and comes with five cameras: three on the back (50MP primary + 50MP telephoto + 13MP ultra-wide), one on the inside (16MP selfie) and one on the cover display (32MP selfie). However, unlike the vivo X-fold/Fold+, the Phantom V Fold does not have a built-in fingerprint scanner. It opts for a side-mounted solution instead.
