Teen dies in Kerry after car he was driving crashed into tree

A teenager has died after the car he was driving hit a tree in Co Kerry.

ardaí are currently at the site of the fatal accident in the municipality of Ballinruddery, on the outskirts of Listowel.

The one-sided collision happened around 2:40 p.m. this afternoon.

A Garda spokesman said: “A car collided with a tree along the road. The male driver of the vehicle (19 years old) died on the spot. His body has been removed from the crime scene to University Hospital Kerry for an autopsy at a later date.

“The two occupants of the vehicle were also taken to Kerry University Hospital for treatment for their injuries, which are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.”

The R555 road is currently closed in Ballinruddery as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting a technical investigation of the accident site. There are local diversions.

Gardaí is calling on anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. All road users traveling in the area who may have CCTV footage (including dashcam) are requested to make this available to the Gardaí investigation.
