Tempting fortune fans criticized contestants for their emotional reaction to the prospect of a phone call from home during Sunday night’s episode.
The Channel 4 competition saw a group of 12 strangers come together to tackle a 19 day trek through the South African wilderness.
Viewers were stunned after players burst into sobs over the latest temptation of this weekend’s show.
After splitting the cohort into two groups—the ardent moneylenders and the individuals willing to play by the rules and choose not to give in to temptation—all were given the opportunity to talk to loved ones at home.
Every minute spent on the phone will cost the group £100 of the total prize pool of £300,000.
Despite the expensive price tag, a few contestants dialed numbers while others sobbed as they held on strong and refused to give in.
Fans on Twitter were quick to respond to the reality show’s drama, baffled by the program’s stars as they struggled to go two weeks without a call from home.
One wrote: ‘9 days and crying like babies ffs, people have extended holidays abroad without talking to family and some friends, ridiculous [sic]’.
Another said, “Really don’t get these “call home” rewards after just a week on a reality show. Even with a phone in my pocket I get through fourteen days without calling family [sic]’.
‘They told their families that they would be away for 2 weeks, what are you worried about? [sic]was one Twitter user’s response to the outbursts on screen.
Others, however, were much more understanding, especially of those who had children, saying their calling home was “priceless.”
The brand new game show offers contestants the chance to get their hands on a large sum of money if they resist the ultimate temptations.
They landed in the South African wilderness and were given basic equipment and supplies to aid them in their trek through difficult terrain.
Amenities at extortionate prices, the temptations such as a shower or a bottle of booze are designed to make participants give in to their desires.
The game show – hosted by Paddy McGuinness – has a major twist, promising to deduct £25,000 from the prize money if players choose to leave the journey.
Tempting Fortune airs tomorrow night at 9pm on Channel 4.
