Tenants outraged by sign prohibiting tenants from using the building’s laundry facilities between 10pm and 9pm

Tenants are divided over the condominium sign limiting the time tenants can use the laundry room — but is it fair enough?

  • A block of flats in NSW restricts when tenants can use laundry
  • A renter shared a sign recently posted in the shared laundry room in a Facebook post
  • It says that residents cannot use the facilities between 22:00 and 09:00
  • Many in the comments were outraged by the ‘problematic’ new restrictions
  • However, others thought they were only fair to those who lived near the laundromat

A sign at a laundromat prohibiting people from using the facilities at night and early in the morning has caused a stir among Australian renters.

A New South Wales woman shared the sign saying residents could not use the washers or dryers between 10pm and 9am the next day, posted in the laundry room of her apartment building, to a popular tenant’s Facebook group.

“Please operate all machines (washer and dryer) between 9am and 10pm, 7 days a week,” the sign read.

“A timer that controls the power to the machines will turn off the power at a selected time (be warned).”

It said if power is disconnected after 10pm and before 9am residents could lose their money in machines and no refunds will be given.

‘Due to the current climate, there is ample time to wash clothes’, it continues.

‘Renters live near this area, please respect early/late night noise.’

While the tenant liked the new rules, she shared the message online because she felt 9am wasn’t early enough, others thought the restrictions weren’t in line at all.

“I think it’s ridiculous,” one wrote, while another agreed: “Those commercial machines don’t make much noise, I can’t imagine it being a problem.”

A third said the time frame could be “problematic” for people who start work at 9am and need to dry their uniforms or for people who work at night.

Others had no qualms about the building’s new regulations, with one saying the end time at 10 p.m. was “generous.”

“If there are other people around, that’s fine with me,” commented one tenant.

“It’s a communal area, they gave enough time during the day to do the laundry, every day,” says another.
