Tesla owners with dogs may already know that they can’t use dog mode when their vehicles are less than 20 percent charged, but if you don’t, it’s critical to know. However, there is always a hack. A tip from EVfast let drivers activate dog mode even when their cars are less than 20 percent charged, with a simple trick that still lets you walk away and do what you need to do while keeping your pup comfortable.
First, an introduction: Dog Mode allows users to leave their air conditioning on when they walk away from the car, so dogs can stay safe in the car even when it’s hot outside. The mode also displays a message to passersby letting them know the air conditioning is on and the dog is safe. although from EVSpeedy tip for this week shows how users can bypass their low-charge vehicles to enter Dog mode. You may also need to handwrite this message for passers-by when using the workaround, as the normal message will not appear on the screen.
Read this week’s Tesla Pro Tip from EVSpeedy.com below for more information on how to use “Dog Mode” even if your vehicle is less than 20 percent charged.
Workaround for dog mode
This is a workaround for Dog Mode not working with less than 20 percent charge. You can put the car in neutral in your safety menu and manually apply the parking brake. This allows dog mode to be activated even when the state of charge is below 20 percent, keeping your pet comfortable and safe while you’re away. Then you can go and do the things you need to do. Don’t forget to lock the car manually, as this is not done automatically. Would you also like to let passers-by know that your dog is safe and the cars are inside Dog modeyou can do this by opening the drawing app and writing the message there.

Editor’s Note: That’s an interesting trick. Of course, the car is not in “Dog Mode” then, but it’s basically the same thing, since the air conditioning stays on while you’re away from the car. Also full disclosure: I’m not sure there are any risks with this workaround.
I don’t like paywalls. You don’t like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a restricted paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong – and it was always hard to decide what to put behind that. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then less people will read it! We just don’t like paywalls so we decided to drop ours.
Unfortunately, the media business is still a hard, cut-throat business with small margins. It’s a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay afloat or maybe even — gasping for breath – to grow. So …
