After Texas lost 30-7 to the state of Iowa last season, Longhorns defensive line coach Bo Davis caused quite a stir when a video leaked showing him swindling Texas players in an expletive. -filled rant on the bus back. During Big 12 Media Days, Longhorn running back Bijan Robinson was asked about the impact and aftermath of Davis’ rant as he headed into the 2022 season.

“It’s about getting that energy that we didn’t need last year in the team until this year,” Robinson said. “Now that we see that we’re the player-led team and we’re doing what we need to do to get where Texas has been before — we’re not giving up anything. If something’s up, we’ll deal with it right away. in our culture we just have to deal with it because all the waiting to see what happens or get out of the situation that’s how you lose the lead so you go 5-7 For us we just try to get everything right do when tackling things that need to be addressed…. All that negative energy, we try not to have that for the team.”

Understandably, all eyes will be on Robinson in 2022. He is arguably the most hyped player in the country for the 2022 season after running 1,127 yards (5.8 yards per carry) and 11 touchdowns. He also caught 26 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns. However, he will get some help from Roschon Johnson’s running backup as he also contributed in the running game last year with 569 yards and five touchdowns as a backup.

While Johnson can contribute, the pressure is on Robinson more than anyone else. CBS Sports recently released its running back unit rankings in the country, placing the Longhorns in the top spot. Barrett Sallee explained why he ranks Texas as number 1.

“Texas won’t be ‘back’ until it actually battles for a College Football Playoff berth, but there’s no doubt the backfield will be terrifying this fall,” sallee wrote:. “No. According to Caesars Sportsbook, Bijan Robinson is tied for the best Heisman Trophy odds among running backs (+3000), and is fresh off the 2021 season where he rushed for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 games. Veterans Rocshon Johnson and Keilan Robinson – the second and third leaders of the Longhorns respectively from last year – also return, providing incredible versatility for sophomore coach Steve Sarkisian.”
