IF you’re looking for something to play with friends, we’ve got the best co-op and 2 player games right here.
Collaboration is the foundation of humanity. Without it we would have no skyscrapers, no internet, no unlimited supply of sausage rolls.
We would be doomed.
Working together probably defines humanity more than our differences, so let’s dive into the best co-op games and lend a hand to our fellow humans.
Back 4 Blood

No two runs are ever the same thanks to an AI director and a card system that shuffles the conditions of each level.
Alien: Fireteam Elite
- Co-op type: online.

If zombies aren’t your thing, battle hordes of xenomorphs with up to two friends.

Borderland 3
- Co-op type: online.
- Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC.
Invite some friends, switch off your brain and hit the trigger as numbers and loot emerge from enemies in a post-apocalyptic world.
It’s not the smartest game on this list, but it certainly has the most weapons.
Payday 2

- Platforms: PS4, Xbox, PC.
Switch your brain back on for this. Payday 2 puts you and your friends in the shoes of a bank robbery crew and tasked you with carrying out increasingly complex heists.

If the words “exotic helmet” get you excited, then Destiny 2 is the game for you and your friends.
Mechanically, it’s not much different from Borderlands 3, but there’s some real knowledge to sink your teeth into. It also has beautiful skyboxes.
warframe
- Co-op type: online.
- Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC.
Imagine if Destiny 2 went in third person and you could play as a space ninja that moves like a bullet. That’s Warframe.
It’s also free!
Deep Rock Galactic
- Co-op type: online.
- Platforms: Xbox, PC.
Play as a group of dwarves who go on missions to unearth precious materials from alien dig sites.
It’s a risk-reward co-op game, where there’s more loot to be gained the deeper you go, but the waves of chitinous aliens get more dangerous at the same time.
Divinity: Original Sin 2
- Co-op type: Online and Local.
- Platforms: PS4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is an RPG as close to digital Dungeons & Dragons as we’ve ever had. It’s an RPG as deep as it is chaotic, especially with four players.

If robbing banks isn’t quite your pace, what about escaping from jail?
There aren’t many games that offer as much variety as this one. One minute you’re in a firefight, the next you’re in a high-speed chase, then you’re playing Connect Four in a hospital waiting room.
Stardew Valley

A perfect game to play with your partner, Stardew Valley gives you your own piece of land and lets you loose on it. That’s a real power fantasy in 2022.

Sea of Thieves
- Co-op type: online.
- Platforms: Xbox, PC.
There’s no other game on this list that lets you smoke five steins before throwing it over your friend’s face.
It’s also a list that’s missing from games that let you shoot your friend (and their dog) out of a cannon. Thanks, Sea of Thieves, for making this list complete.
Minecraft
- Co-op type: Online and Local.
- Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mobile.
Create anything you want and build your own blocky kingdom in the best sandbox game out there. Minecraft is for everyone.
Build your own railway network, build a castle, build a farm, dive into mines and fight the monsters that attack at night – all with friends.
It takes two
- Co-op type: Online and Local.
- Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC.
From the same developer as A Way Out, this takes the concept of a pure co-op game full of variety to another level.
Sure, it’s much more family-friendly, but you forget that when you get to the bit with the elephant. You know when you are there.
Portal 2
- Co-op type: Online and Local.
- Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, PC.
Instead of a co-op mode on top of the main event, Portal 2 has a special co-op campaign where you play as two robots.
Co-op introduces more complexity to the portal-based puzzling and also allows you to trap your friends in an infinite loop, making them fall forever. Sweet.
