Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy return as Jesse and Celine, now in a long-term relationship and raising two children after staying together at the end of Before Sunset. On the last day of a family vacation in Greece, the two reminisce about the choices that brought them together, and what could have been in a different life.

Boogie Nights (1997)

Netflix — July 1

A porn producer discovers a promising young new talent in the 1970s. Mark Wahlberg stars in an early role, learning the ropes of an industry on the cusp of major change and upheavel with the coming of VHS. Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights is a 90s classic and one of the best new streaming movies this week.

Jennifer’s Body (2009)

Prime Video — July 1

While largely dismissed by critics when it came out in 2009, Jennifer’s Body has since been reappraised, recognized for its clever feminist message and as a queer horror classic. Megan Fox stars as a teen lured to the woods by an indie band and sacrificed to a demon. Only the sacrifice didn’t go as planned, and Jennifer’s back, possessed by a demon that’s going after the boys at school as Jennifer’s best friend tries to save her.

Sexy Beast (1999)

Hulu — July 1

An ex-con trying to live a quiet life of retirement in Spain suddenly finds himself pulled back into his old world by a dangerous man from his past in this British black comedy, a cult classic and one of the best new streaming movies this week. Featuring a daring underwater heist and unforgettable performances by Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley, Sexy Beast is a wonderful streaming pick.

House of Gucci (2021)

Prime Video — July 2

Legendary director Ridley Scott released two films in 2021. While House of Gucci and The Last Duel were both terrific, the former clearly came out on top with audiences, featuring a delightfully campy lead performance by Lady Gaga. Patrizia Reggiani may have come from humble beginnings, but when she marries into the Gucci family, she quickly lets her ambitions take over. Soon, the family finds itself spinning out of control, plagued by betrayal, conspiracy, and murder in this unbelievable true story.

Hollywood Stargirl (2022)

A sequel to 2020’s Stargirl, Hollywood Stargirl sees Susan relocate to LA, where her mom has a job as the costume designer on a movie. There, Susan makes new friends and persues her musical dreams. Julia Hart returns, directing a screenplay that she co-wrote with Jordan Horowitz.

The Longest Day (1962)

The Criterion Channel — June 6

One of the best new streaming movies this week is a World War II classic. The Longest Day chronicles the events of D-Day, as Allied troops landed at Normandy, France, marking a major turning point in the war and a decisive step toward the defeat of Nazi Germany. With an all-star cast including John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Henry Fonda, Sean Connery, and more, The Longest Day is a classic for a reason.

Hustle (2022)

Netflix — June 8

Funnyman Adam Sandler stars in this Netflix original sports drama. Sandler is Stanley Sugerman, a former basketball scout trying to revive his career by drafting a talented young player with a checkered past, all without getting his team’s approval first.

The Janes (2022)

HBO Max — June 8

As America grapples with the potential rolling back of abortion rights, this HBO Max documentary explores the country pre-Roe v. Wade. In an era before abortion was legal, a group of feminists who called themselves “Jane” built an underground network to help provide low-cost, safe, illegal abortions to those with unwanted preganancies. This is their story.

Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain (2021)

Documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville turns his camera to celebrity world-travelling chef Anthony Bourdain, offering viewers a rare glimpse into the life and career of the beloved American icon who died tragically in 2018.

The Card Counter (2021)

HBO Max — June 10

One of the best films of 2021, Paul Schrader’s The Card Counter is also one of the best new streaming movies this week. Oscar Isaac stars as professional gambler William Tell. Tell learned to count cards in prison, serving a sentence as a soldier for his role in the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse. When the son of one of his fellow soldiers finds him, he takes the young man under his wing, while forced to revisit his dark past.

The Worst Person in the World (2021)

Hulu — June 13

One of the best films of 2021, and nominated for two Academy Awards, the Norwegian drama The Worst Person in the World is finally streaming. Follow the life of Julie, a young woman grappling with love, work, and identity over four years in Oslo.

Halftime (2022)

Netflix — June 14

A global superstar, Jennifer Lopez has been an icon of music and film for decades. This documentary offers an intimate look behind the scenes, tracking her career and allowing the talented celeb to reflect on her path to stardom and the many obstacles to success along the way.

Cha Cha Real Smooth (2022)

Apple TV Plus — June 17

A major hit when it premiered at Sundance, Cha Cha Real Smooth stars Dakota Johnson and was written and directed by Cooper Raiff. A man who works as a party host at bar mitzvahs strikes up a friendship with a woman and her teen daughter in this comedy-drama, streaming exclusively on Apple TV Plus.

Good Luck To You, Leo Grande (2022)

Hulu — June 17

Emma Thompson stars as retired widow Nancy Stokes in this moving, smart, and heartfelt drama on Hulu. After an unfulfilling married life, Nancy hires a handsome young sex worker to experience what she never did in married life and enjoy her sexuality. What follows is a night of self-discovery.

Jerry & Marge Go Large (2022)

Paramount Plus — June 17

Starring Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening, and based on a true story, the Paramount Plus original Jerry & Marge Go Large is one of the best new streaming movies this week. When a couple discovers a loophole in their state lottery system, they exploit it to win millions of dollars. Once rich, they use the money to revive their struggling small town.

Spiderhead (2022)

Netflix — June 17

From the director of 2022’s breakout hit Top Gun: Maverick, and starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller, and Jurnee Smollett, comes one of the most exciting new Netflix original movies premiering this year. Spiderhead sees two inmates bonding and questioning their roles at a high-tech facility where they are experimented on with emotion-controlling drugs.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

Disney Plus — June 22

After a relatively brief stint in theaters, the MCU’s latest film hits streaming on Disney Plus. When there’s a dangerous rift in the multiverse, Doctor Strange enlists the help of Wanda Maximoff to stop a dangerous foe. Little does he know the Scarlett Witch may prove to be a liability in the Marvel Studios’ first cinematic horror outing, from legendary director Sam Raimi.

Beavis And Butt-Head Do The Universe (2022)

Paramount Plus — June 23

Mike Judge’s iconic animated duo is back! Based on the eponymous 90s MTV show, Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe is a sequel to 1996’s Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. After some shenanigans, the two are sentenced to attend a space camp and time travel to the present day. Now, they have to learn to cope with a very different world as they evade the Deep State and learn to use smartphones.

Rise (2022)

Disney Plus — June 23

Based on the true story of the first trio of brothers to become NBA champs, Rise follows the Antetokounmpos family as they struggle to make ends meet after emigrating from Nigeria to Greece with five children. In their spare time, three of the brothers practice their skills on the court, leading to incredible opportunities.

The Man from Toronto (2022)

Netflix — June 24

A classic whodunit and case of mistaken identity, The Man from Toronto sees a bumbling entrepreneur teaming up with a notorious assassin when the two have their identities mixed up due to a shared Airbnb. Starring Kevin hart and Woody Harrelson, The Man From Toronto is one of Netflix’s most anticipated films of the summer. 

Trevor: The Musical (2022)

Disney Plus — June 24

Based on the Off-Broadway musical (itself based on the 1995 Academy Award-winning short film Trevor that inspired the nonprofit LGBTQ+ youth organization The Trevor Project), Trevor: The Musical tells the story of a 13-year-old boy forging his own path as he struggles with fitting in and embracing his identity.
