The 150th Open Championship kicked off on Thursday and many players created the right conditions to shoot low opening rounds on St Andrews†
American Cameron Young leads the way in his Open debut after 18 rolls after shooting 64 in the first round, leaving two shots at Rory McIlroy, who is second on six-under. Cameron Smith, Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler are trailing in the top ten.
There is work to be done for the likes of Jon Rahm, one-over, and Justin Thomas, level par, while Tiger Woods will probably need something like a second round 66 if he wants to extend his tournament into the weekend. Woods has won the Open twice at St Andrews, but shot a disappointing 78 to leave himself 14 shots off the lead.
He will leave early on Friday and hopes to find the calmest conditions, with Scheffler and Dustin Johnson among those in the early wave.
McIlroy starts his second round at 2:59 PM alongside Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele.
