Police are expected to remain at a remote site in North Canterbury for most of the day to continue their investigation following the discovery of a body.
The body was found at 10am on Tuesday inland from Amberley, at an entrance gate on a rural property on Dalbeg Rd, a road with no exit.
A police spokesman said Tuesday that the cause of death has yet to be determined and is being treated as unexplained. Police cannot confirm whether the body belongs to a man or a woman.

Officers were back on scene Wednesday morning on a remote, single-lane dirt road in hilly farmland.

The nearest houses where the body was found are about 1 km away, just down the street.
The person turned out to be found behind long grass next to a hedge, with cows on the other side.
A neighbor said she saw children cycling onto the road earlier on Tuesday morning, and police arrived not long after.
A farmer who owned land in the same area where the body was found declined to comment.
The investigations are ongoing.
