Thomas Tuchel would like to return Chelsea less than two years after leaving and feels he still has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge, according to reports.
The West London club announced this on Tuesday evening said goodbye Mauricio Pochettino by mutual consent and have now started the search for a new manager.
There are a lot of names already in line to succeed Pochettinofrom ex-Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi to Ipswich Town's Kieran McKenna.
But it could also be a familiar face who takes over the reins Sky Sports Germany report that Tuchel is a 'very concrete' option.
The 50-year-old was the first major casualty of Clearlake Capital's ownership of Chelsea, being sacked on the 100th day of their reign in September 2022.
Tuchel had clashed with the club's owners during a tumultuous period of turmoil but had won three trophies in the previous 20 months, including the Champions League.
He has had a difficult time at Bayern Munich, where the team only finished third in the Bundesliga, and announced earlier this year that he would leave the club at the end of the season.
Bayern made a last-minute attempt to convince Tuchel to stay, along with his agent Olaf Meinking, who met with the club's hierarchy last week.
However, Tuchel confirmed no agreement was reached and Saturday's 4-2 defeat to Hoffenheim was his last game: “There have been talks but we couldn't reach an agreement, so the February decision still stands.”
Tuchel, who has also been linked with the Manchester United job if Erik ten Hag is sacked, is keen to return to the Premier League and Sky Sport Germany says he would welcome a return to west London.
They even claim that 'relaxed discussions' took place in recent days, before a decision on Pochettino's future was even confirmed.
Tuchel feels his role at Chelsea is 'unfulfilled' and could see himself returning to the club, even if the Blues' hierarchy may decide to take a different route.
Chelsea are thought to prefer a young, forward-thinking coach who plays attacking and possession-based football, making them most closely linked to Ipswich's McKenna.
Other names in the frame include Stuttgart's Sebastian Hoeness – who actually guided Bayern and Tuchel to second place in the Bundesliga – as well as Girona's Michel and Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca.
