Earlier Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard has criticized Chelsea‘s Kepa Arrizabalaga for not keeping out? casemir‘s head.

Chelsea looked set to claim all three points after Jorginho drove in a penalty on Saturday with just three minutes left after Armando Broja was knocked down in the penalty area.

United’s summer signing popped up with a crucial goal deep in extra time, but he clung to Luke Shaw’s cross with a fine looped header. While Kepa managed to get hold of the ball, the ball was judged to have crossed the line before he could clamber it away, giving United a well-deserved run in west London.

Former US international Howard, who played three seasons at Old Trafford before succeeding at Everton, insists the Chelsea goalkeeper should have done better.

“Credit Casemiro, it’s a good header. But I have to say that Kepa is getting a full hand on the ball, he should hold that off,” Howard told NBC Sports.

“He should have sent that around the post. That would have been a really good save and that’s a tight, tight decision.”

McTominay was judged to have been knocked down in what appeared to be the crucial moment of the game, just six minutes from the bench, with former United defender Gary Neville describing the offense as ‘terrible’ and ‘awkward’.

Howard, however, had sympathy for the Scotland international, who expected the decision to be overturned by VAR.

“There is a lot of wrestling, a lot of wrestling for position, taking jerseys. That’s how you learn to defend, and rightly so,” Howard said.

“I didn’t like that I thought Broja threw himself to the ground, it was clear from the photos. So the fact that McTominay had his arms around him didn’t really send Broja down.”

A point ahead of United keeps them in fifth place, one point behind Chelsea.

Newcastle United could top them both with a win over Tottenham Hotspur in north London on Sunday afternoon.
