NEW DELHI: The Telecommunications Department focuses on implementing a radical reform of the existing regulatory framework, so that the industry can invest and devise strategies well in advance.
“We have a responsibility for the regulatory dimension and are working to make India’s regulatory regime a global benchmark so that the industry can plan ahead and invest in the sector,” Ashwini Vaishnawsaid the Minister of Communications on Thursday.
Vaishnaw spoke at the curtain raising event organized by the telecom sector body representing jio, airtel and Vodafone idea.
“It is time to replace the legal and regulatory regime without any disruption. We want active industry participation to make a law.”
We take every suggestion on consultation paper seriously. We’re looking into any suggestion, he said, adding that industry views would help shape the policies of the future.
Furthermore, Vaishnaw said that the industry needs to come forward in terms of local technology development and make it for the world. There will be a target in the next 2-3 years.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a clear vision that India should become a leader and that the industry should help the country become a leader in all parts of the value chain.
The minister also said the Center is working to provide Rs 500 crore annual aid to the industry.
Vaishnaw also said the speed at which technology is being added in India is phenomenal and the industry would get dividends for taking connectivity to the last mile in remote villages.
“Chipset makers should go to universities, smaller colleges and schools to set up experience centers,” he added.
The senior minister also thanked the telecom industry for making the 5G auction a success. “It indicates that the industry has come a long way from uncertainties and legacy issues, becoming a sunrise industry.”
Devusinh ChauhanState Minister for Communications said bids worth Rs 1.50 lakh crore indicate the industry’s confidence in Prime Minister and Minister of Communications.
“We have developed policies in line with industry demand and started with a design-driven PLI scheme. The government wants to make doing business easier.”
The Cellular Operators Association of India organizes the India Mobile Congress (IMC) from September 29 to October 1 in New Delhi, expecting 70,000 attendees and more than 7,000 industry executives.
