Longtime NBC News correspondent Pete Williams is retiring and his Today show colleagues gave him a touching goodbye on the latest broadcast.
The team first shared with him a pre-recorded segment where many at NBC wish him well and let him know how “irreplaceable” he is.
“We raise a glass to you, Pete,” Savannah told him after the video ended and the show returned for a live look at the hosts.
The outgoing correspondent looked emotional as he put a hand to his heart in response to the sweet tribute.
Savannah then asked him, “How are you feeling on this day, Pete?”
Before he could answer, she said to him, choking to death, “I know we’re just a basket. We are a mess of tears. Because there is no life without you.”
Throughout the clip, Savannah and Hoda sat side by side on the couch on set, their glasses of champagne raised and emotional about their colleague’s departure.
Fans were shocked to see that they seemed to be putting aside their rumored feud to have this tender moment live on the show.
“You have our hearts and you have our respect,” Savannah added to Pete during the segment.
Hoda added before the goodbyes ended: “I love you, Pete!”
