“Sometimes politics isn’t just about following the flow, it’s about resisting it,” he told the conference.
Faced with the rise of the far-left and far-right in France, he rejected the proposal that voters no longer wanted so-called “centrist” politics.
“It’s a fight. There will be a big fight,” he added.

Sir Tony was not completely critical of the Boris Johnson administration, pointing out the government’s ambitious policy on climate change, but he criticized the lack of energy behind it.
