Hahn is said to have told police that his Belgian husband Walter Henri Maximilien Biot had died after a combination of drinking and sleeping pills caused him to collapse and hit his head, police said.

But the diplomat was foiled when forensics reportedly revealed that Biot had been really brutally beaten, they said.

He was discovered in the couple’s beach apartment in Ipanema with numerous bruises “compatible with injuries caused by stamping,” the report revealed.

The body was also found to have “lesions compatible with a cylindrical instrument attack,” Officer Camila Lourenco reportedly said on social media.

“The version of the events given by the consul, namely that the victim fell, is incompatible with the conclusions of the forensic report,” said Lourenco of Rio de Janeiro’s 14th district.

“The cadaver screams out the circumstances of its death,” she said.

“The circumstances of the death are clear. We realized that there was a violent death from the marks of injuries in different parts of the body,” Lourenco told reporters.

Footage filmed by police in the apartment after the incident showed Hahn trying to explain how his husband died.

According to the diplomat, Biot was drunk when he suddenly jumped to his feet, as if he were having a seizure.

He then ran to the porch of their apartment, where he tripped and fell.

“I don’t think he fell intentionally,” he told Lourenco, who took the shot.

Hahn said he didn’t know why his husband ran before his alleged fall.

“No, I can’t tell you” [why]. I can tell you that he was panicked and nervous a few times in the past few days.

“Sometimes he behaved strangely,” he said.

The top consulate claimed he thought his husband was just drunk when he fell, and did not know how serious his injuries were.

“At first I thought he was drunk. So I took a picture of him and sent it to a friend and said, ‘Walter’s drunk again.’

“So I said, ‘Come on, Walter, get up, you have to go to bed, you know, you can’t sleep there.’ And then I saw the blood.”

Biot was found dead in the house the couple shared a week before his 53rd birthday.

The district’s Instagram account shared photos online of what appeared to be bloodstains on the floor and furniture of the couple’s apartment, according to the Straits Times.

Reports also suggested that Hahn tried to scrub the crime scene before police arrived.

Brazilian media said Hahn would have no diplomatic immunity given the horrific nature of the crime.
