The European Research Group (ERG) is reportedly pressuring Liz Truss to join forces with the campaigns of Suella Braverman and Kemi Badenoch. The reports come amid mounting concerns that the three Brexiteers are splitting support for the right, giving former Chancellor Sunak and Commerce Secretary Ms Mordaunt a clear path to the latter two. Telegraph Associate Editor Christopher Hope said: “Wow! I’m getting pressure from ERG sources tonight for Suella Braverman, Liz Truss and Kemi Badenoch to merge campaigns and blow Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt out of the water.” Jeremy Hunt and Nadhim Zahawi dropped out of the competition on Wednesday, leaving six candidates in the race to become the next prime minister. Rishi Sunak, the former chancellor, gained the support of the most Tory MPs, receiving 88 votes, with Penny Mordaunt – who has become a favorite among grassroots activists according to past polls – finishing second at 67. the race is Mrs. Truss, Mrs. Braverman, Mrs. Badenoch and Tom Tugendhat.
