Tottenham move for Gianni Vio while Antonio Conte targets an Italian specialist to address the weakness of the set piece

Vio has a wealth of experience and has previously worked with the likes of AC Milan, Brentford and Leeds.

The 69-year-old was also on Italy’s staff when they won Euro 2020 last summer and his set-piece work has been credited as a key part of their success.

As reported by The Athletic, Tottenham are now in talks with Vio and hope to add him to Conte’s backroom staff for the new season.

Vio’s arrival will be a welcome boost, with Tottenham being 14th in the Premier League last season for goals from set pieces.

Conte did an impressive job at Spurs after being appointed in November last year, leading them to a top-four finish last season.

The Italian is now eager to kick in by strengthening his team and also adding his backroom staff.

There are agreements to bring Rangers chief scout Andy Scoulding and performance director Gretar Steinsson to the club, while Simon Davies will join the academy.

Spurs are working hard to add to their squad and have so far brought in three new faces in midfielder Yves Bissouma, goalkeeper Fraser Forster and wing Ivan Perisic.

Conte still want to bring in a left-back, right-winger and new forward before the transfer window closes, with talks underway over a deal for Everton striker Richarlison.
